The aphid infestation in Toronto several years ago is nothing like the shad flies they have here every single summer.

These things are pretty stupid, so they land on everything, from cars to store windows to roads. In some parts of the city, the sidewalks are so covered in shad flies that people slip and slide on the insect guts.

It was literally raining insects when we came out tonight from the movie theatre. The entire glass door was covered in them. Every car in the parking lot as well. Every step we took was crunchy. Swarms flew around and around the street lights. Very disgusting.

On the mouse front, we caught one tonight. It's a return to the humane traps. The two of us timid females made the man in the house deal with it. I don't think he likes rodents or insects too much either, but he's the default. We think that he's definitely going to ask for an all male household next time.
